Most marketing gurus will tell you that increasing your volume of traffic will equate to more turnover. This is not necessarily true. Of course, generating more traffic is not a bad game plan to boost your traffic, but what does this mean overall.

Generating large volumes of traffic to go to your website essentially means that you have a lot of visitors going to your website. But are they converting to sales for you If you are just generating traffic, this does not necessarily mean your conversion rate is high.

It is your conversion to sales that equates to income. Oh, it’s nice to tell your fellow marketers that you got 20,000 hits on your website last night. But will you also tell them you only had 4 opt-ins

Ultimately, what a good Internet marketer is looking for is quality traffic instead of just generic quantity. With quality target traffic, you will make more sales. If visitors to your site are not taking action and buying into your product or program, then you need to focus on your web page and what is not turning the screws on these visitors.

After this is all said and done, you need a barometer, a measuring device to keep track of the traffic coming into your site and where is traffic is coming from. This will help you to fine tune your machine and begin to gain control over quality versus quantity. Ultimately, your goal might be to start generating quantity traffic that is primarily made up of quality leads. This can be done.

In order to monitor your traffic to pin point where most of your sales conversions are coming from, you will need to do a few things first.

There are several good tracking programs that will help you monitor all of this effectively. One of the best tracking programs is Google Analytics. Sign up for your free account with Google Adwords, then copy and paste the script they provide you with into the page you want to track. This will provide all of the information you need to monetize your website in order to begin increasing you conversion rate.

This simple script you copied and pasted from Google Adwords will tell you several things. Whether your visitors came direct from referral links or search engine queries. Unique visitors, page views, how many visitors per day, time spent, etc. It will even provide you with visitors profiles.

By analyzing all of these variables, you are able to monitor where the traffic is coming from and what they are doing. By tracking your traffic in this way, you can refine you efforts to generate quality traffic much more effectively than without monitoring your streams of visitors and where everyone is coming from.

When you are in a position to know where your sales are not coming from, then you can drop this generating resource, or fix the problem if there was one. When you know what areas your quality traffic is coming from, then you can boost your efforts in these areas for even higher traffic that is going to covert.

It may take some time for the initial efforts of setting up the tracking and learn to analyze your data, but this will also make your marketing methods much more efficient overall. Tracking will force you to fine tune your generator, making it work more efficiently for you. It is like having your own tune-up kit.
