Have you ever tried to do everything by yourself because you thought that it is the best way to build your business and generate wealth? I can share from my personal experience that multi-tasking in every single task will be the one factor that will kill your business faster than you can say the word, “Overload!”
You see, when I was young, I just didn’t really have much talent. I learned everything the hard way and I knew that in order to get things done, I had to get my hands dirty and that is why I tried to do everything myself.
I have picked up this trait from my parents by observing them all my life. My father was an old-fashioned, traditional businessman who always believes that he is always the better person to do the job. After all, he reasoned that if you want to get something done, it is better to do it himself, right? So he ended up doing everything in his business. He never delegated his tasks and ran a one-man show.
I was deeply influenced by him and I thought that I was always the best person to do the job. As a result, I never trusted others even though they were more than qualified to do a good job.
It was a typical syndrome that many bosses and CEOs faced.
As a result of this, I almost always have problems getting a lot of things done. I was trying to do everything and anything I could get my hands on. I really had trouble delegating and I treated everyone as though I was the only person or expert around.
Whenever I completed a task, I was never satisfied. I kept on going and going (just like the Energizer Bunny). This trait happened throughout my life even when I was growing up to the point that I was always too busy to spend time with my loved ones. I was constantly in the trenches with my staff – fighting on the front lines.
It came to a point when I was completely burnt out – and that happened when I was running my retail business few years ago. My friends and family members were wondering why I was never around during the holiday season as they were celebrating and enjoying their holidays and I was busy guarding my retail stores, traveling from branch to branch just to make sure my people are doing their job.
With stress reaching a boiling point, I have reached the point of complete exhaustion. One day, in the year of 2005, I had decided to let go off my business so that I can reflect on my future and decide what I wanted to do with the rest my life.
I have learnt the hard way that a true businessman (according to Robert Kiyosaki’s E-S-B-I quadrant) is someone who delegates and manages his business.
A person in the B (Big Business) quadrant is someone who lets his business work for him rather than the other way around (compared to the S quadrant where you are a small businessman and you do everything by yourself – in this case the S was me being SOLO)
After I attended a few business courses and seminars did I found out the truth – that specializing in your strength can actually make you more money and give you more time to enjoy the fruit of your labor.
It was around this time where I discovered that it is possible to build passive, walk-away income on the Internet. I realized that I could do the work ONE TIME and have it pay me for the rest of my life.
When I started my own online business, I decided to specialize in a certain field that I would have a tremendous advantage over other people. I realized that if I could channel my knowledge and publish it on the Internet where there are millions of hungry customers looking for information, I would be able to replace my ‘offline’ business and achieve success in a shorter period of time.
As a result, I went full force and within 2 years, my business has grown beyond my wildest dreams – way beyond my 5 years of building a retail business. If I could achieve more than 5 years work in 2 years, can you imagine how you will be able to achieve success if you have the right mindset, desire and skills?

Hi Jaz,
that´s exactly how I was brought up, too. It is totally impossible to get everything done yourself because it is way too much.
Finding somebody reliable who is doing quality work without charging too much is a whole different story, though.
thanks for your revealing post,

Hi Jaz.
Well, I also know now, after seeing some videos from Mr. Kiyosaki, that trying to do everything by yourself is very damaging for the “Self-Esteem”, but, even though I struggle with it at times, it becomes much clearer and simpler as I go along…
I guess I am also an “Old School” type of guy, but as Newbie in the Internet Marketing world, here in Germany, there are not many that understand or can adapt to the Fast paced American and World Wide Tempo of Internet Marketing… That´s why I have to do it by myself… Cannot afford to pay someone when not many know too much about IM! And those that consider themselves as an Expert try to make a Quick “Euro” and then just want to suck out all the blood from my only surviving Streams…
I have had many such partners like that in the past since I have been here over the last 23 years, and at the End… They are not even close to what they claim to be… That is why I have decided to choose the difficult and bumpy road, so that at the end, I can definitely help people get out of such Problems, due to the Fact that I´ve been there, done that and sometimes, that is the BEST way to go!
Then again, that´s my personal opinion… I know myself better than anyone else… I know I have way more endurance, Discipline and absorb knowledge, analyze it and put in effect… if it doesn´t work… regroup, study it, analyze it again and execute… I guess it comes from my True Soldier values as an Army Veteran.
Anyways, it is sometimes best to keep away from the crowd that doubts me and can´t understand my decisions and procedures… They are ALL so Normal!
and I understand that to get to where I want to get, I need to take different procedures and in a completely different fashio as the Rest…
My ONLY competition and BIGGEST Challenge, is Myself!

O” man did this one hit home and you are right on here,,i was raised that you could always count on yourself to get it done and not to wait or let someone else do it for u when u could do it yourself…
Now the business that i have run in my life i was most of the time the “”top man”"”as far as being the most qualified person to do the job,,,but then i got injured and i started my on-line career and man what you done this post on has hit me right between the eyes because i have wasted a lot of time and lost money i know by not just asking or hiring somebody else to do the parts that i have had such a hard time on..
Even though i was always the one to do it before anyone else ,,with this business i lacked a lot of knowledge at times and just learned it from scratch when i should have hired it done and learned it later after i got my business built up..Now i am not disipointed i did learn it but from now on i am going to approach it in a different way i can tell ya that…
Hey man great post and thanks for the extra wake up for the future problems i may encounter because i will remember this post and then get it done the fastest and most qualified way…

That’s right Keith. There are so many things we need to do online and when I decided to get people to help me with most of my technical stuffs. My income soar immediately as I am able to concentrate on what I am good at… Marketing.
Nirusan, getting quality people to help you does not need to cost a lot. Just don’t give up looking for them. Most people give up after 1 try. Sometime, you need to search for awhile longer before you can get good quality people to work for you. Keep doing it, it will come much easier when you gain experience.

Hi Jaz,
I totally agree. I read Robert Kiyosaki’s book and it helped a lot by giving me relevant information on how should I plan my future. I’m a full-time house wife, HR Consultant of an I.T. SEO firm (StickyMediasolutions, Inc.) and at the same time working part-time as an Independent Herbalife Distributor. Sometimes we forget that the main reason why we are working so hard is to provide what’s best for our family. Without us realizing it, the best thing we could give our family, especially our children (those who have kids), is our TIME! Now I currently have 3 kids (Audrick 4, Audrey 2 & Aries 2months old), it’s difficult to manage my time with every child and my career. But through proper delegation and teamwork with those people I worked with, I still get to enjoy my own time and spend quality time with my husband and my kids. What I’m saying is that, no matter what kind of business you are in right now, if you learn the law of leverage, then you will definitely get to enjoy the things you want in life. Success should not solely be based on the material things you gain but also on how you touch people’s lives every single day.
Good luck on your career!
