Your Past Does Not Determine Your Future

Jaz Lai Cars

People say that the reason why I can afford a beautiful car and make 5 figure paychecks all the time is because I have all the privileges for success. They thought that I was born rich and endowed with opportunities all my life.

Many people have a wrong perception that successful people are born with skills, intelligence, connections, financial leverage and even good grades in school.

I am living proof that I started with neither!

I wasn’t:

- An ‘A’ star student
- Born rich
- A genius with an IQ of 160
- Knew people that could get me places (it was the opposite to be precise I was an introvert kid who always sit at the back of the classroom)

When I started out in school, I was a C student all the way up to college. Singapore is an Asian country that placed huge social emphasis on getting good grades. Kids without good grades were segregated as ‘invalids’ and to a certain extent – social outcasts. They even put brighter students into express streams where they would ‘skip’ a couple of grades while the slower ones are forced to endure a prolonged education.

Jaz Lai’s C GradeI got Cs for most subjects I could think of – from English, to science and history to math. The only thing I excelled in was Arts (but in many Asian societies, art degrees were less recognized compared to science and business graduates so I was at a disadvantage).

I survived by barely scraping through all my tests and exams because I was in a poor school. This school was a school that accepted virtually all social outcasts that couldn’t fit anywhere in society due to their poor grades and lack of privileges that money could buy. So you can see that the ‘friends’ I hung out with were not particularly a good influence at all!

This problem plagued me all the way up to college where I couldn’t even get into a polytechnic (more like a Tafe or a specialized college for people who couldn’t fit in to mainstream universities). Don’t even get me started about finding a ‘good’ paying job…

But there’s an important lesson to be learned from all this:

Your past, no matter how messed up your circumstances are, are NOT the determining factors that will decide your destiny. You and only you alone have the power to change your destiny no matter what your circumstances are.

By shifting your responsibility and blaming others, you are only giving yourself excuses instead of being responsible for your own success.

As a matter of fact, having a good education, rich parents and good connections will not even guarantee your success! I’ve personally seen many people with such privileges but only mediocre results compared to what I have today. Good grades and fancy Master degrees only affect what KIND of job you are going to get after graduation and the rest depends on what you do with that first job!

Let’s be brutally honest with ourselves. We see many people with ‘good’ jobs complaining how they want to get out of the rat race, start a home business or even regain their freedom. But how many of them actually take action and make a change? Few do. They do not realize that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results?

So if you keep doing the same thing, you are always going to get the same result. They don’t take action and blame everyone but themselves – the economy, their lack of talents, the social norm, and the fear of people laughing at them… they don’t realize that they are actually this close to making a change but they let their fear of failure paralyze them and they throw away their dreams just like that.

Once again, it is all about taking responsibility of your future.

I came to realize that I could change my destiny. The future isn’t written in stone and I had the power to change my future. At the end of the day, I learned that what shapes your future is your own burning desire for success. It is all about looking forward instead of harping about your lack of opportunities.

It’s time to stop giving ourselves bull crap and start taking action towards our success.

    Hey Jaz,

I can totally identify with the bad school results part ;)

At the end of the day, a good education can only bring you so far, it’s what you do in your business that really counts at the end of the day.

Thank God for Internet marketing and network marketing :)

    Cheers and congrats!

    Jaz,

You’re the man my friend. It’s just about going and forgetting those voices that say “Yeah But”. The more you do it, the stronger that mental muscle gets.

    To the top,

    Daegan

Much the same when I was in school, except I was an expert D student. In colleage I was
defined as not expected to pass final year exams, so i was placed in pre-employment class.
( pre-employment was work for an employee half a day and do school the other half of the
    day )

” It’s only when you let your past get in the way, will your future remain grey ”

Once I took responsibility for myself , did I start seeing positive results with my
mlm based business. It’s people like you Jaz that have helped me soar with the
    mlm eagles.

    Cheers mate

    hello jaz,,
I can sure relate with yu on this one ,,but,,like the line say’s..
The future isn’t written in stone and I had the power to change my future.
And all me and my wife needed was a couple of tools because we have all the desire we need and when you came out with your plr’s a few days ago that was the main tool we needed
because we were haveing a lot of trouble in the article writing and createing video’s ,, we are not dum we just have our strong and weak points and i think that is something that people on the internet or what ever they are doing in there life is to figure out there strong and weak points.

After they figure them out then they need to start using what they are strong in and make a plan to get someone or something to take up the slack on what they are not strong in,,and just because they are not strong in 1 thing dont mean they are strong in the other what ever that may be..

We know our weakness and getting your plr package we made up for what we were lacking and by the way the plr package is wonderful and you did a great job with it..Thanks for it and talk to ya soon.

And yes people success is in your hands and if you wait for someone to hand it to you then you will have a long wait because it is up to you to go and get your success…..

    sincerly keith,

I love this post. Very inspiring. I used to be on top in grade school but not really in high school. I had almost-fail grades on my freshman year in university. And now, I quit school at the moment. Thinking of just do internet marketing or network marketing. Man, I don’t wanna go to school anymore. LOL. Going to school and getting a job (Just Over broke) is not what I want.

Your past does not determine your future. So true. I agree. :D

Wow, I love the cars! haha. Congrats to your success.

    God bless,

    Feiyie

    Jaz,

I was always at the bottom of my class - took me longer to do my degree than others but did it stop me?

The answer is NO my friend! Keep up the good work.

This was a very positive post. You’re right, people don’t have to remain victims of their circumstances, whether they created those circumstances or not. As long as we wake up every day, we have a chance to be something better.
