For me, "The company should be able to sell itself essentially" sums it all up.
With that in mind I am very fortunate to have a (flash)video presentation; It is brief and to the point.

Rare if at all will I say anything until a prospect has viewed the video. For one, if they cannot dedicate themselves to a 6 minute presentation I do not see how they could be successful in business.

Interesting post Jaz,

While I am a firm believer in recruiting, I also believe that it is important for a distributor to be able to make money without recruiting. I have distributors in my company that make a six figure income SIMPLY by retailing the product.

The bottom line is no matter how great our products are, people are attracted to this industry because of the money that you can make. However, what happens if you haven't made any money? Isn't it a little more difficult to recruit someone if you haven't made any money?

However, if you can make money just by retaining the product, now you can create your story and it makes you a more attractive recruiter. It's one thing to say hey this company is great and I'm hoping to make some money soon. It's another thing to say, just last week I made an extra $500 doing this business part time.

For as long as I've been in the industry there has always been an ongoing debate as to whether you should lead with the product or lead with the opportunity. My response has always been the same simple response.

I do both.

There are some situations in which I lead with the product first. For example, I do a lot of pay per click advertising for my MLM business. I create PPC ads in which I lead with the product so that people searching for my product will find my web site and contact me. They sign up as a customer first and then I share with them about the opportunity.

I also purchase a lot of business opportunity leads as well. These are people who have raised their hands and said that they are looking for a business opportunity. For those people, I lead with the opportunity. I talk about why they want to get involved in an opportunity, what would they do with the extra income, etc. I share my story with them, etc and then when I expose them to one of my company tools, they learn about the product as well as the opportunity at that point.
