image Do you know what’s ironic about getting downlines?

The more you hope for someone being THE ONE, the more likely they will disappoint you.

On the other side of the coin, the top performers in MLM are sometimes the very people their uplines or their sponsors overlook. They may not seem like ‘bulldog recruiter’ material, but they do tend to surprise you when you least expect it.

I guess the reason lies with a person’s expectations.

When you are in MLM, your goal is to build a business. Although you have uplines and downlines helping you to generate money, ultimately the business ownership lies on you and you alone.

The more you pin your hopes on others (such as ’star’ downlines), the more you are likely to take your eyes of the bulls-eye which is to build your own business and build your team.

A true leader in MLM is not a person who entrusts the success of their business to others. They can leverage on others, but they will not pin all their hopes on getting others to build their business for them.

Mike Dillard of Magnetic Sponsoring & Blackbelt Recruiting is such a master in MLM psychology that he refuses to get emotionally attached with his downlines or their prospects.

He doesn’t care if his downlines stop coming to meetings or if his prospects ‘need more time to try out the product’. He just says, "you are not ready… next!"

This teaches us one thing - the harder you hope for your downline to build your business for you, the less you will build your own business. But the more you focus on building your business more downlines and prospects will come and psychologically speaking, the less you pressure or micro-manage the more self-sufficient they will be and they will become better downlines in your team.

You are so right. I’ve had downline that pinned all their hopes on the one “big player” and didn’t do the day in day out business building that could have brought them success.

    Hi Rick,

It happens all the time. Your MLM Team must be properly educated that their business is their business and their downline’s business is their downline’s business…

After all, how much commissions can one make from just ONE leg (or group)?
