The Death Of A Network Marketer

deathnetworkerAs a network marketer, I’m sure you started because you were enthralled with the “MLM Dream”.

In your mind, you probably imagined making 10’s, 100’s, 1,000’s and 10,000’s of carbon copies of yourself and you’re getting paid for all the work THEY do. You’re get some passive income here, some passive income there, and some more.

You fell in love with the simplicity of “just find 3 people, who get 3, who get 3

You run those numbers and, OMG, there’s not a more attractive business out there, online or offline.

It’s like FREE money raining down from heaven because you could be asleep and somebody in your downline could have made you money. And it doesn’t matter where you are, or what you’re doing at the moment, so long as the people in your downline are ‘working’.

If this keeps up, very soon the most difficult decision you ever have to make in a day is “which should I have lunch?”

And if I hit the nail on the head, it’s because I speak from firsthand experience.

Truth be told, there’s nothing wrong with this blissful picture.

It is my reality now and that of many others, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing until I eliminated the HUGE roadblock that stood in my way, which I suspect, is similarly preventing you from achieving the MLM success that you richly deserve.

What Network Marketing Companies Don’t Want You To Know

You see, the big problem with Network Marketing companies, is the fact that they want you to be unequivocally focused on promoting THEIR opportunity, and THEIR opportunity only.

God forbid you ever get sidetracked in any way, because as they ‘claim’, it’ll only be ‘detrimental’ to your growth.

As a greenhorn, I adopted this approach without much questioning, and maybe you currently adopt this approach too.

But all that left me with, was nothing more than a GAPING hole between where I was, and where I wanted to be.

long_road1

The chasm was widening, and like a quicksand trap, I was sinking, FAST. I had to bail myself out real quick, or face my greatest fear…

DEATH in MLM!

The cause of death?

Little or NO cashlow.

Can you identify with that?

It’s a recipe for disaster: thousands of people join this industry every week and almost as many leave it just as quickly-disappointed, upset, and angry. Some become cynical. They release their frustrations by bad-mouthing MLM, and the whole industry suffers from bad press.

The Truth?

“The majority of Network marketers are members of the “working poor,” working at low paying jobs and living a hand to mouth existence. They have absolutely no financial security and are only a couple of paychecks away from being thrown out on the streets with no belongings Will they have enough money to retire in thirty or forty years? Pretty unlikely…”

The truth is, I needed cashflow like, yesterday, and I was only making my own situation WORSE, by spending all my money, time and effort on something that would only yield solid, tangible results in the LONG RUN.

It wasn’t until I had a paradigm shift, and focused on immediate cashflow, did I manage to extricate myself from that unbearable situation.

checks1
Ironically, it was only AFTER I nursed myself back to positive, glowing, financial health, did I manage to build my own network marketing business from a position of POWER and turn in into the empire that it is today.

What do you think of this blog post?

Do you share the same experience and sentiments?

Let me know, because I’m in the midst of developing a solution for those of you who face the same cashflow problems, but I don’t want to be banging my head against the wall with a product that no one needs.

Leave me your comments to let me know how you feel and whether you’d be interested in my solution. I read all my blog comments personally, and your feedback is highly valued.

Part 2 just added… Grown up men are crying.

    Hey Jaz,

It seems that a lot of networkers are going through the same situation.

The only way we can truly ‘break free’ from this vicious cycle is to create your own marketing system on the Internet and brand yourself as a person with all the ‘know how’ before one can even embark on this MLM journey.

    Regards,

    Khai

Yes yes yes, this is all you get on the world wide web. Everybody making money but yourself.
you won’t believe but what we really need is somebody who has found a real way to earn and just for once offer it to others for free. They will be blessed if they do this because they are helping spread the wealth which is what the universe intends. People cannot keep affording to buy any new promise that is given. A product is sold, but no follow up assistance so everybody is doing the same thing.

Jus too costly to get going. Have spent far too much already to try your product.

But thanks anyway, you hit the nail on the head.
If somebody would help me get started even earning $100 a day then I would pay them back but everybody wants money first.

I couldn,t have put it better myself,my new friend.Life can be a real struggle sometimes.Trying to
make ends meet.I just started in the internet business a while ago.It is slow at the moment, but I am
still learning the ropes,of how things work.I put up three sites,so far,but only one is listed on the
search engines.Need to set up some kind of auto-responder for the e-mail part of it.Need to advertize
more too.I read your comment and it made a lot of sense to me,thank you so much for the input.Hope all goes well for you,in your business.Take care, will chat again soon.

Reading your comments tonight, I find ring true to myself. I feel like the tide going out and never coming back, the sun setting and never rising. Because as hard as I try to duplicate what my very successful upline has done and how he does it, it just does not work for me.
I still will not bad mouth MLM as the business structure is just like the large corporations with out the advertising.
With Cash flow only flowing to the company and not to me. Always wishing that the tide would rise. Wondering what I could possibly do to make so. I keep my positive out look and attitude, so that I can rise tomorrow. Because I will never let this trend get the best of me. As I have too much to do in life, I could never let this be the last word.
Yes sometimes we all feel like we will never successed, but to myself I will be true, and never accept defeat.
Now Jaz, do I sound like I am ready for a product like you mention? If you have some magic silver bullet then I am ready for you.
Success has not eluded me, while in direct sales B2B over the years I always did well. At the flea markets in years past I always did well and when I ran a route for 30 years and was #1 in sales volume for 15 years, I can’t hardly wonder what I am doing wrong now.

  7. Paul Muasya June 11, 2009 9:35 am

    Hi Jaz,

Your analysis of the state of majority of network marketers is very true. It is a sad state of affairs. Many dreams have been killed, many hopes quenched.

I have been doing my search for about six months, spend some money and a lot of time on programs that have not worked. I have not made any money so far, but I am hopeful that one day I will strike it.

It appears like we have those “who have made it” selling programs that do not work for anybody else other than the developer; then we have those who sell programs that have not worked even for the developer; we also have those who sell nothing but collect money each month; and finally a minority who sell programs that can work if followed to the word.

The sad thing is that they all sell, cause “nothings for free”. Thus majority of seekers end up spending a fortune while gropping around for direction.

  8. George Fourie June 11, 2009 9:56 am

Spot on Jaz! I like your mindset shift of focusing on immediate cashflow and side stepping the brainwash. excellent post!

  9. ANIL June 11, 2009 9:59 am

The network marketing process is pretty slow. Usually we have to work our butt off in the 1st second month before we get paid. I persoanlly think this is going in a wrong direction because we really have to work hard to get the benefit. Let’s not even talk about residual income.

  10. Amruthavalli June 11, 2009 10:01 am

It is nice to say that what Network Marketing companies don’t want to know is “Promoting the opportunity”. But it will be nice if u explain the reason on what basis they want this. And still some truth is behind there. It will be good if it is expressive more and your analysis of network managers is true.

  11. Corrick Lim June 11, 2009 10:02 am

As much as I hate to admit it… I’m beginning to feel that this is another “Rat-Race” that most network marketers unwittingly find themselves trapped in.

With all the endless cold-calling and follow-ups… It’s like trying to stopped the water leaking out from a bucket full of holes, when downlines start to leave the business one by one.

This is exactly what is happening in the MLM industry. And most of us fail to see the big picture until all of our funds have been bled dry…

If you have a solution… I’ll be looking forward to hear it. Thanks for clearing the air.

  12. Lakshmi June 11, 2009 10:06 am

After reading ur blog i got much idea about network marketing. U have expressed that employees are working under low-pay. It will be great if u explain some other reasons too.

  13. A.Arun June 11, 2009 10:06 am

    Jaz,
I dint know all these days that Marketing companies had such an instinct. Thanx for explaining them clearly. Hope to see some more articles of u.

  14. Lakshmideepak June 11, 2009 10:08 am

Your idea is good. I too support for it. Still it will be great if u explain some other reasons based on some other criteria.

  15. raju June 11, 2009 10:09 am

Actually this process is going in awrong process . we are not satisfied with this process

  16. L.Praveenkumar June 11, 2009 10:28 am

The majority of Network marketers are members of the “working poor,” working at low paying jobs and living a hand to mouth existence. They should have financial security other wise it is difficult to live the life of Network marketers

  17. bennysanyan June 11, 2009 10:29 am

  19. harsha June 11, 2009 10:35 am

Ya this blog is very useful for the marketers in the network. By this they can aware of the network very well

  20. Scorpio June 11, 2009 11:13 am

I have never tried my hands in MLM but have seen many of my close associates and friends burn their hands in it.As long as it is a MLM architecture where you are not required to sell anything to your ‘friends and family’,i think it is ok.I had once come across a similar structure in which if you join a certain ‘online money making scheme’ for which you needed a website, the default web domain booking site automatically added you to the MLM and the ‘online money making site’ ensured that if you pay for that site periodically, it would keep on adding members to your down line. Liked it pretty well but did not try it out.

I think the major reason for MLM failure is the number of cold calls and the way of marketing. For selling any MLM i have experienced people harassing me to join their down line. Also if you look at the tree structure , there are many more leaves of this tree who go unpaid than the number of paid nodes available. Personally i would not suggest you to start one more scheme of such kind.Already there are so many on internet that they look like scams.but then they are strictly my personal views. :)

  21. Gurcharan June 11, 2009 11:16 am

Great information is in this article. I really appreciate your efforts. Thanks for sharing. The blog is very useful especially for the marketers.Once again thanks a lot.

  22. cut June 11, 2009 11:18 am

I liked it! Written, very interesting! But to understand, you must have a little knowledge of marketing!
(I started its “journey marketing” with the books of Robert Kiyosaki)

  23. bobbili June 11, 2009 12:07 pm

Yes, its true and that is the real fact. Analysis is very good. Even i am in this field of networking with your analysis i got much information rather than my experience.

  24. Laura June 11, 2009 12:08 pm

I have had first hand experience with MLM and it was a bad experience. I agree that companies are interested in their goals only and not concerned about people who work for them. I hope your solution helps people overcome this problem.

  25. kiran June 11, 2009 12:10 pm

yes there is no any financial security in this field for the workers. And more over the real fact is that companies try promote their business in order to gain profits.

  26. avi June 11, 2009 12:12 pm

What a valuable info i got from your review because my cousin is doing in a networking company though he got money but he will be dull for most of time. Now i got the correct reason and I look forward to what you are going to share with us.

  27. rajh June 11, 2009 12:15 pm

i has a small business which i want promote through network marketing. but now i withdraw my idea by reading this because most of the people doesn’t know the truth.

  28. jashi June 11, 2009 12:17 pm

A man who is doing this network marketing look like he is busy and it also seems that is earning a lot. But no one knows the truth. Thank you for your review and I look forward to seeing what you have in mind.

  29. balamurali June 11, 2009 12:38 pm

Ya its very easy to understand the network marketer by see this article.I think this is very useful and every one should know about this.

  30. Jim June 11, 2009 12:44 pm

    Hi Jaz,

You’ve hit the target dead on and I do agree with your brief summary
of the Network (MLM) Industry. What we need in the industry, is
Integrity based marketing, where the company and the leaders, tell it
like it is and not fill the heads of people struggling to make a few dollars
to supplement their income, that they can become rich overnight (Most don’t
stoop to this tactic, but those who do are harming our industry) and make loads of money.

They tell the story that all one needs to do is get 3 who get 3 and so and
so on and before long you’ll be rolling in money.

They have forgotten one of the main ingredients and that is, “People don’t join an MLM company because of the Marketing plan or the products, they join because of the person making the presentation. It’s not how well you sell the company’s program, it’s how well you sell yourself as someone who will do whatever it takes, to help that new person become successful.

One of the other ingredients is having a system that works and available for the new recruit to start using immediately in order to monetize their first few weeks or months. No one wants to wait 3 to six months to earn their first pay check.

Also MLM companies need to be reminded that the distributors are not their employees. (as they are quick to point out in their agreement statement) We do not work for them. We are “Independent contractors” or a better word is, “Affiliates.” The MLM company is one of our suppliers, and we have the right to market any other product/s that we choose to, while maintaining the integrity of not trying to cross sponsor another product or company to others within the company.

Generally speaking, most people can and should focus on only one company until they reach a point of being financially viable, and then if they choose to, they can look at other opportunities.

Network (MLM) Marketing, is still one of the best form of building a home based business for the majority of people looking for a second or part time income that can eventually replace their full time (J.O.B.) income.

  31. Douglas Ndiritu June 11, 2009 12:48 pm

Yes, I have been through almost a similar experience, I share your sentiments and wish to assure you that I will be interested in the solution you suggest.

  32. Asher Awesome June 11, 2009 1:24 pm

    Hi Jaz,

Excellent information you shared in this post. I especially liked what you stated in “The Truth” and you KNOW that I’ve only just begun to wake up to it =)

    Asher

  33. Natalie Baxendale June 11, 2009 2:13 pm

I want a solution, however the solutions people have given me are so complicated (to me)
that I can’t implement them. I know I have an excellent company and a pay plan and I’m doing
OK but I need to go much faster. It is this list building thing that gets to me. You build a list
of people to email to and they email you back pushing their company and have barely looked at yours.
It simply does not make since to me.

    Natalie

  34. Gwen Hendricks June 11, 2009 2:30 pm

You hit the nail on the head – I couldn’t have said it better. I am just about ready to give up on ever making any money on the internet – my biggest problem is that I haven’t been able to nurse myself back to that financial health in order to do as you did. I have been duped too many times and it has cost me most of my savings. Sure would like someone to come up with “the real honest to goodness solution to these problems.

    Looking forward to your solution.

    Gwen

  35. Josh Nikle June 11, 2009 4:10 pm

Excellent post, and very true. The allure of the MLM business model turns out to be the Sirens’ Song for most, as the failure rates for this industry will attest.

Cash flow is always a problem in any business really, so I think a product that would fill in the income gaps while people build a sustainable business would be of huge value. I’d like something like even in my own marketing efforts. The great thing about this industry is its willingness to collaborate and progress.

Thanks for the honesty too. In fact, I recently wrote a post on my own blog about the word “Auto-pilot” and my frustration with it these days. MLM is a great business model, and technology is a great help, but you get what you earn in my experience.

  36. Remedios Albaniel June 11, 2009 6:12 pm

Hi, it’s true, for me it’s difficult, who doesn’t know of marketing. I ‘d like too,but no much time, working all the day , in coming back home, sometime open and read some e-mails and very confusing for all e-mails about marketing, and so-on and so-on. Who is the one not happy of earning money maybe everybody, but I’m very sorry that doesn’t really knows and thank’s

  37. Bob Marconi June 11, 2009 6:26 pm

That’s the rub isn’t – how to produce that needed cash flow? It ain’t as easy as ‘they’ make you think!

I am so tired of everyone telling me how much they make, or showing me pictures of their new homes and cars. How this mechanic or that broke mother with x kids makes uncountable dollars daily/monthly/yearly.

I suspect any money they make is coming from the sale of their ‘system’, not from real information they provide.

    Sounds a bit ‘jaded’ I know but…

  38. Jim June 11, 2009 7:55 pm

I totally agree with everything that you had to say in your
blog. These MLM Companies make it sound so easy to
just go out their and recruit a few people to duplicate what
you are doing. The key is to get those few people who will
commit for more then just 30 days. It’s more difficult today,
because MLM has such a bad rap of just being a scam with
    overpriced products.

I am happy to say that I am currently involved with a very
legit, honest MLM Company that does care about their
associates. We are currently in prelaunch until Jan.2010.

  39. pasha543 June 11, 2009 8:44 pm

Thanx for explaining them clearly. Your idea is good. This beneficial for network marketers for easy understanding.

  40. ardent June 11, 2009 9:00 pm

it helps more networkers to get new information that is necessary to their work. it gives news related to their work. even gives information to the things to be aware of. Encourage more people to make money with the use of their internet connection.

  41. Haylie June 11, 2009 9:35 pm

This is a very interesting and entertaining article, but I do feel like it has a few flaws. For one thing, there are many spelling and grammatical mistakes, as well as typos. This, along with the “get rich quick” feel, gives the blog entry a slightly shady impression. On the plus side, the images are truly wonderful.

Best of luck to you and your solution!

  42. aruna June 12, 2009 2:47 am

MLM as you stated is a business which must be undertaken with due deliberation and research. One has to have an attitude to pursue in this field. Money does not flow in easily in any righteous work. Therefore MLM too involves dedication and perseverance. One has to be patient and keep finding opportunities to exploit the market and meet goals. It is also taken as a part time job but then one must be prepared to be paid partly for that.

However I agree with the blogger Jaz about the dreams and the difficulties in the field. But not all MLM businesses are that hard as potrayed. The keyword is to find the right work for your liking. Hard work pays so go for it and have patience and go for it!

If you google and check the results you can see so many success stories too behind MLM marketing. So nothing is impossible. One has to be dedicated and remember there are no short cuts in making money.

  43. teresa June 12, 2009 3:40 am

You are very right…. I am in the hopes….as how the dream was sold to me. I have spent more than what i intended. I could not quit…coz i am not a quitter on anything i’ve done. Then it gets worse coz my upline raided my downlines ….not to bring to another MLM but to put under her team. It will get worse and I am confused right now. I do not know where to report and what to do……. May be with this, you can give me some info….. or someone …… or anyone…….

    Thanks.

  44. guna June 12, 2009 3:52 am

still know i thought that a person who is in this means as a network marketer, he would have more money, leads his life comfortably but know by reading this review everything gone trash.

  45. valli June 12, 2009 3:53 am

I have definitely hit the right spot. I think every networkers should know that it takes time to build a good network.

Luckily my company is one of the best in the industry but there are too much restrictions.

From average, it will take you a good 6 months before anyone can see any real income coming in.

I am excited to see what you have in hand. Let me know soon.

  46. funa June 12, 2009 3:54 am

yes what ever you said about mlmer is fact true. Most of the companies just want their distributors to promote their products and that’s it. Most of the time, this makes me feel insecure.

  47. Robin Kee June 12, 2009 3:56 am

Even my friend Shantu is doing as network marketing. But he is pretty slow when it comes to earning. I saw each and every point clearly which you mentioned in your post. It is horrible but no knows whats the real fact.

  48. hema June 12, 2009 3:57 am

Network marketing play a key role in the part of the Indian society. Now there are many companies expanding here. But I can see from my friends that it is a long way towards financial freedom, even thou some can make it, most wont.

I am interested to see what solution u have.

  49. akhil June 12, 2009 3:59 am

The title of the topic itself describes that which part u are explaining. The blog is very nice as it explains the importance of Network Managers.I got very clear idea after this blog.

  50. lee June 12, 2009 5:12 am

This blog really motivate the inner abilities of the man wherein which he can perform a lot of task than he aimed. MLM is nice and tough task to go with and hence it need a moral support which ahs been given by this blog. Wonderful attitude to go with the sensational topic like this. Spirit is always there with this blog

  51. MANOJ GOPALE June 12, 2009 5:23 am

I agree with you on one aspect that cash flow is halted for initial period and thus it does become very difficult for those people who are working full time for the network marketing program. You have made it very clear that those people who join network marketing are majority of the people who are having less paying jobs.

So, I agree with your some conclusion regarding cash flow but it is not the cash flow is all together important when it comes to the real success.OK, initially it may sound acceptable but over a period of time it does not have that importance.

  52. lee June 12, 2009 6:17 am

MLM is the place where you have both hell and heaven both together as we may face any of these phases while working. It really need the guts to overcome the issues as you said and it has to start with all mindset up. Nothing is got without hardwork. So if you sweat then money is yours . Great post.

  53. Brandt June 12, 2009 6:27 am

The real truth is revealed in an ebook that I found about a year ago. I am not making a million dollars or nothing but this book really got me to realize what it takes to make some REAL rent paying money. I am now working full time at home. I highly advise you to get this ebook because no matter what type of product or business you are marketing for this ebook will tell you what it takes to start making money online. And it is easier than you think it is!

    To Your Success,

    Fellow SUCCESSFUL Marketer

  54. bobbili June 12, 2009 6:29 am

I came to know about the persons who are in net work marketing. The problems faced by them and the real facts about them.

The most important thing is that every net marketer would be some dull and inactive.

  55. kiran June 12, 2009 6:32 am

These are real facts about net work marketing. The companies need only to promote their business.
They don’t bother about the employees security. As you said most of the employees came from middle class.

    http://www.work-at-home.org/

  56. Smith Haverson June 12, 2009 6:42 am

The picture itself describes everything about the current state of network marketers.
Every one should agree with these points because you mentioned real facts. When you are sort of money now, nobody care about long term financial freedom at all.

What do you have? I am interested?

  57. Jo June 12, 2009 8:09 am

Jaz, this is a good post. I have been inI.M. 8 months now and still have not made $1. I have bought courses, followed guruss and can only come to the conclusion that I am missing that 1 ingredient that will give me a breakthrough. In my defence, I would say, that learning tech stuff is a big obstacle and if you start out knowing something about the tech side you have an advantage. I look forward to another post from you.
    jo

  58. raju June 12, 2009 8:40 am

I agree with your comment.where I personally viewed the problems faced by one of my relative where he has no basic idea of overcoming the problems. He suffered a lot but he did not find the way to solve his problems.
network marketer must be a problem solver, risk taker, and also a risk taker.if the person have all these qualities then only he can overcome the problems

  59. L.Praveenkumar June 12, 2009 8:48 am

The majority of Network marketers are members of the working poor, working at low paying jobs and living a hand to mouth existence. They should have financial security other wise it is difficult to live the life of Network marketers. This blog was really nice this was more useful for the network marketers for easy understanding

This is the problem that network marketers are facing now a days especially with this bad economic environment.

But Network marketting still has a huge openings in untapped 3th world countries in Asia and around the world.

I like what you have said and all the best for the new marketers.

  61. Peter June 12, 2009 8:55 am

    H Jaz

I had the same problem with my network marketing business initiailly. But then the company introduced a DVD that did the whole presentation, so I didn’t have to.

So what I did was to buy the DVD in bulk (at a low price) and then sell the DVD on eBay at a price that would cover the cost of the DVD, cover my advertising costs and also make a small profit. So now I can advertise my business for free.

  62. Brian Edmundson June 12, 2009 8:57 am

I would like to do it thru the internet. The exact same way as u.
But some times it is just impossible to get started. What’s your solution Jaz?

  63. vinay June 12, 2009 8:59 am

I think in the current economic climate this problem of people looking for quick money, and being attracted to MLM schemes will intensify.

You article does very well in highlighting the problems with MLM, and the issues around how easy it all seems. The promises of 5-6 figure sums is purely ludicrous.

There is no such thing as easy money. You have to work for it!

  64. Jaz Lai June 12, 2009 9:38 am

Well done Peter. If you can break even with your eBay lead generation, just keep it going and scale it up.

  65. samar June 12, 2009 9:50 am

It looks like everyone is struggling making money here and there but no one seems tobe successful as everyone is complaining that they are not successful. I wonder about those posts people make online that they have made such and such amount usually in 1000′s of $$. Its good to see that you are trying to do something new and I wish you all the success in it. The work looks kind of not so easy one but still there is no harm in trying.

  66. Shirley June 12, 2009 10:00 am

Yes, you could be the answer but if you are going to lead people down the same path of telling us you are going to offer us something that works and it doesn’t you are going to lose credibility with us.

  67. Lisa June 12, 2009 10:27 am

Unfortunately the mentality of many people in this industry is that they can sign up, sit on their butts and watch TV all night and make $1 million dollars with no effort whatsoever. You gave some good advice as far as taking personal responsibility for your own efforts and showing that there is actual work involved. Thanks! I enjoyed (and tweeted) your post.

the value of marketing is increasing day by day. So its a very informative article about the marketing. It is very useful for the marketers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  70. Nix J. Hanson June 12, 2009 11:50 am

Great info Jaz. It doesn’t really matter how much financial freedom we want, as long as we are struggling with pay check to pay check. We can’t go anywhere. Great post! Love your work, keep it up.

I’d be interested in your “solution.” Doyle has a system that’s been working for him and his people for many years. I just joined his group. Donald Trump just started his own MLM company, did you know? It’s uixonline.com.

  75. Sajid June 12, 2009 2:10 pm

Yes, the network business is made of people and we are in the same situation, we must decide to build a product, to sell a product which is good for others and everybody take interest in there.
The network marketing is the most popular business in Internet and is mostly build on the people and they are mostly the poor people who involved in this more than others.
It is really difficult to earn money without having members and more people join the more our earnings we can make.

  76. Faye Gardnerson June 12, 2009 2:21 pm

It is my reality now and that of many others, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing in my mlm business. I think I am getting what you are taking about. Let me know more.

  77. Rajan June 12, 2009 2:37 pm

MLM is nice and tough task to go with and hence it need a moral support which ahs been given by this blog. Wonderful attitude to go with the sensational topic like this. Spirit is always there with this blog

  78. Sachin June 12, 2009 2:38 pm

The only way we can truly ‘break free’ from this vicious cycle is to create your own marketing system on the Internet and brand yourself as a person with all the ‘know how’ before one can even embark on this MLM journey.

  79. Jass Amber June 12, 2009 2:39 pm

Just let me know what you have in mind!

    Hi Jaz

I think your blog is great, keep up the good work, I wish I had half the brains you have. Honestly,m I don’t even know what network marketing is all about. I am just a newbie trying to find a niche.

    Thank you,

    Luis

  81. Steven Mohler June 12, 2009 4:40 pm

Quick and easy money is rare and hard to find. If something seems to good to be true it likely is. It seems unlikely to me that it is possible to earn money quickly without putting in a large amount of work. of course I could be wrong. :-)

  82. lisette Cousineau June 12, 2009 5:40 pm

here is the truth, I have no website.
I have a small herbal company. I have been in business for 24 years.
some years have been very good and some more difficult.
i am getting all these email promissing great monies.
    I have not joined anything.
My company is MLM in a small way. I have loyal clients and distributors,
most of them have no computor. I have also for the last year, incorporated a magnetic resonance system with my work. I use it myself and have found my physical independence with this system.
iI am in no position to invest where I could possibly loose money.
i was just curious to know what you would do in my position.
    keep well, lisette

  83. Sam June 12, 2009 5:42 pm

Yes, your comments are true but they also apply to any start-up business, be it a network marketing business or a flower shop. You need cash flow while you build any business.

The most successful networkers I know and have known for the past 25 years focus on one company. They start part-time and earn their way up and away from their jobs. Usually it is the wife that starts part-time and the husband joins when he can quit.

I think the “real issue” isn’t being spoke about here, nor is it on most places on the internet. Choosing the right company to promote is the “real issue”. MOST good and stable network marketing companies are not easily built on the internet. I said MOST, not all. With the economy the way it is today we need to choose a debt-free company whose initial package purchase is under $400, the monthly autoship is affordable ( this is KEY ), that pays very fast and MOST people want or need their product – IMMEDIATELY. Choose a company that appeals mainly to women – they are 78% of the direct sales marketplace in North America (DSA statistics) and that the product is of high quality and can be sold around the world. It took me over 25 years of banging my head against the wall to figure out all of the above :-)

Use the internet for leads and for training – it is extremely good for that – and admit when you wake up each day that you are SELLING something, be it a product or yourself. Anytime I bring in a new rep to my business I can tell almost immediately if they are going to be successful – simply by testing their reaction to the word “sales”. Their success has NOTHING to do with me – it has MOSTLY to do with their excitement level about the product and their willingness to share that excitement with others.

Jaz is SELLING something here but he told you that right upfront – he’s not scared of the word. He has tapped into our emotional quotient by talking about lack of cash flow – that is a very emotional phrase these days. Most of us will buy what he offers because he gives good value for dollar and he truly believes in funded proposals, hence his excitement and commitment to building and selling HIS business, which is training us to SELL and market.

wishing all of you life’s successes, Sam
p.s. I am watching many of my friends who are pro-networkers leaving their companies in droves these days because their company’s autoship is way TOO high. If your company is not willing to “change with the times” – get out fast and seek a wonderful company that understands that fact and has openness to helping you to build YOUR business using the internet as a tool, plus all of the above I mentioned.

  84. Hey, nice post, very well written. You should write more about this.

  85. Adrian Castro June 13, 2009 3:50 am

Hi Jaz and you the reader of this post,

The typical MLM pay plan does not give the average Joe and average Jane a chance.

They get lured into MLM thinking it is “marketing” and NO selling.

In order to get that Cash flow, something has to be sold. Period.

If you cannot sell squat, let your upline do the selling and closing for you.

Do not believe that the automated whiz bang distributor website will do the selling for you because if it did, the company would NOT need you.

First of all find a company that has been in business long enough but NEW in a niche.

Second, find that company with a product that WORKS – so you do not have to apologize to your friends and family and their referrals. You will have ENDLESS referrals if your product works.

Third, find that company with a compensation plan that does NOT rely on you finding “diamonds” on your downline. If you are good in selling, an equitable compensation plan with commission overrides should give you a decent income and lifestyle.

Finally, find a mentor and coach who can guide you by the hand until you know the ropes. Then have that expert mentor and coach your downline to duplicate yourself. Do NOT attempt to mentor or coach yourself unless you have that special gift and training of mentoring and coaching. The mentoring and coaching process will give you that breakthrough.

You should consider that new opportunity only if you can get quality mentoring and coaching. Otherwise, keep your day job.

    i saw ur blog now…

After reading ur blog i got much idea about network marketing. U have expressed that employees are

working under low-pay. It will be great if u explain some other reasons too.

    u really done a great job…thanking u…

  87. Hey Jaz, you hit the nail on the coffin. Network Marketing is not a JOB; it’s about getting others to their prosperity point with positive relationships. The MLM companies don’t tell you that Cashflow is very important. They want you to focus on the 100 list of names instead. Thanks for the clarification Jaz..

  88. Jim July 15, 2009 5:59 am

I agree with the blog. Alot of these MLM Companies are
all about hype and empty promises with little or no
support. The heavy hitters are already established with
large mailing lists and financially they can run those
full page ads. If there is a low cost solution that can
give the average hardworking individual a fair chance,
    that would be great.

  89. Marcy August 2, 2009 1:14 pm

I have to agree with you. Most of the people who want to make it big here are the “working poor”. Also, I guess we all have that scam story – being scammed by someone (maybe even a friend or family member) who wanted us to get into a quick rich mlm business that was all talk. I’m excited to read your solution. Will continue reading your next article. :)

  90. Tristan January 2, 2010 11:00 am

    Hi Jaz,

    Fantastic information, thanks for sharing!

  91. Josh April 15, 2010 7:52 am

I agree with you that MLM companies only want you to do things their way mate. To truly be successful in this industry you have to think outside the box and take a different approach when it comes to promoting your product and/or opportunity.

  92. John Zehr August 19, 2010 4:21 pm

Good post, Jaz. Since most network marketers have no “network” and they don’t know anything about “marketing”, the chips are stacked against them right out of the chute.

If you believe the BS you see on Facebook, everybody is making money on the net. It’s all BS of course. I bet that not 1 in 20 of the people who claim they’re raking in the dough with “their system” and “their product” are making any money.

I know. I’ve been there. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be that way…

  93. Alan Eames August 20, 2010 6:49 am

    Hi Jaz,

Very well put! If there’s no cash flow, the new recruit dies quickly, and that, I believe, explains the 90-97% failure rate that I see so frequently in books and articles about network marketing. When you can solve that for self and others, you are on your way to serving others and as Zig Ziglar said “You Can Only Get What You Want, If You Help Enough Other People Get What They Want.”

    All the best,

    Alan
