The truth on MLM is a mind boggling one to say the least. Anymore those three letters are quickly followed by the words; illegal and scam. For many however it has to do with the lack of knowledge going into the company to begin with and not researching all avenues. Especially the financial ones that will not work out well for you if you don’t.
In the beginning your sponsor says, “Make a list of everyone you know that you have personal contact with even if its not frequently.” which is often called your “warm list”. One of the major issues when doing this is that all of your friends and family are almost obliged to listen to this sales pitch coming from your sponsor more times than not on a 3-way call. This usually puts your relatives and friends in a awkward situation having to say “not right now” or something to the effect where they are trying to be nice. Unfortunately both will drift away if they are continuously hassled.
Upon that you make more money with an MLM by recruiting people into the program as opposed to actually selling the products. This creates what is called a “residual income” once you hit a certain number of people within their system. Then each and every month you get paid for each level. Here is a challenge that is hard to overcome, the pay structure. There are several ways to look at a pay structure and many times if people think its not working from the get go and they are spending a monthly fee then they will quickly drop out of your downline. In doing so this means your pay will shift, and just as fast as you got up there you can fall right back down.
Its amazing that the only 5% of active network marketers actually make money. Not really, its quite logical especially when people go online into business networking sites. What are the odds that you are going to find a legitimate person within this type of social networking community to join your team? The odds are quite low based in fact that everyone else already has a company they are trying to get people involved in whether MLM or not and its a constant circle. Unless people are specifically coming in to find a new business its going to be very rare that you capitalize, not only that you’ve spent hours communicating with others in hopes of getting 1? That is definitely not an efficient way of approaching MLM.
So the real question to this truth on MLM is, “Is it even feasible to make a mint?” and the answer is yes. How? You have to find what the industry calls “quality leads” where people have filled out some information regarding their interest in an MLM program and are looking for someone to contact them about theirs. Many years ago everyone was naive to the ideas of how MLMs actually work and people joined left and right making those top recruiters big dollars. In todays world however its an uphill climb just to find one that is interested.

Hi Jaz
Saw your post on facebook,
Let me just say it is nice to have someone with some thing intelligent to say about MLM.
Too often people base their opinion on some one else’s experience and make decisions out of ignorance and fear.
When the real question they should ask themselves, is why they are still around if they are not supposed to work.
Bu i agree with you, there are tons of different opportunities out there, some work some don’t some pay some don’t. Most of the time it’s the people behind the company that make it or break it.
I also think people tend to drop out when they don’t make tons of money right away
or when they realize there is actually work to be done. Most people are looking for that quick fix. MLM’s are anything but quick, but if you look at the alternative, the 40-40 plan. MLM would be lightning quick.
Like you said the most important thing, is to find a company, study it, understand it and see how it can work for you not the other way around.
