Having a large collection of leads from which to sell to and also recruit from is the key to success in any network marketing business. More importantly, it is the consistent generation of these leads that sustains a growing business opportunity. Without this large pool of leads, one is bound to fail. While working on a large group of possible leads, you are required to break up your leads into two categories, the qualified and the un-qualified (generic) marketing leads.
The unqualified leads are those who have not reached out to you to request information on your products or your business, like your friends, your relatives, the persons whom you give business cards to at an event or even the strange people you meet by chance in your day to day life. They may support you but they may not be presently interested in your business opportunity.
It is to be remembered that such unqualified leads are our potential reserves and that quite often, an unqualified lead can be converted into a qualified lead. This will however depend upon your determined commitment to understanding how to do that and on the time and energy spend for the task.
The person, who has requested information from you about your business opportunity, has accepted your business idea and is seeking more information about your products and your business, while they may already be familiar with what you have to offer them. Hence he is a qualified marketing lead and is a prospect much more worth than a generic marketing lead.
However, it may turn out to be that a qualified lead will not become a customer or a member of your downline. Also some of these qualified leads may get driven away by aggressive sales techniques of some eager network marketing reps.
To provide a jumpstart to your network marketing business, it is always best to learn ways on generating your own leads, like from industry conferences and events, where people learn about your MLM opportunity. Using the internet, you can invite people to sign up for newsletters on your website, promote your website or blog through online advertising services like Google AdWords and capture the contact information of qualified leads. Notwithstanding the time taken or the expenses incurred, this approach would be an excellent investment in your business.

Absolutely, the distinction between qualified and un-qualified leads is important. Those that are qualified will possibly purchase products and perhaps become part of your business. Those unqualified are just tire kickers.
If more people would start their business with the understanding that a constant ongoing stream of prospects is the life of their business, maybe more people would create a real income stream before they fail.
Great posting!!
