You are great I love your content. The only question I ever have is this. I know what you are involved with but when do you offer your program to your readers or enable them to sign up with you. I have not seen any links directly on signing up.

  16. Jeanne May March 18, 2008 6:19 am

    hi Jaz

I’m staying on your list pleaase!

Interesting video — but the same argument can be used for absolutely every aspect of life whether its business, relationships, financial or whatever. I know there are lots of charlatans who promise the world, charge the earth and deliver nothing. But there are very many people out there who are committed to the personal development of people. And if they make a living doing that… we all need to make a living to survive in the world!
I’d rather think I was making a living helping people develop themselves than making a living selling drugs and contributing to peoples and societies problems and miseries — but that’s my choice.

    hi

  32. sudhir kulkarni March 18, 2008 4:40 pm

    dear jaz,

you seem perturbed and the language is tough&terse , it is but natural as you have been punching keys to help others.but i have read whatever you have given so far but the compy thing and the jugglery that call for is still not getting in my dull head and as you know by mistake i do not want to be a looser the internet laws and rules are not known so i keep on reading but to start you ought to know the basics which i am quite poor at and i have also been punching keys explaining things truely . the internet thing i found many funny things like getting a lottery just too many times and not getting a penny. and i do not want that has no labour of mine. nor do i wish to steal , though they say beg, borrow or steal
all the three ways are not for me. i have slogged and do not mind to do work but one must understand that he is not getting into a thing which can be harmful than help. as you have given things they may not be harmful but i do something which causes trouble to you is also not acceptable . so if you feel that you are being ignored is not the case.
then as you know the things around me are not as smooth as you feel. we have bandh, power failure, then the non citizen i will not enlenghthen the list.
i will keep company and if someone really gets me understand i will jump. i have asked the cafe ( cybercafe) runners , the reapir software agents who help me keep my compy running . i offered to take the whole thing to their advantage but of no avail.
i have put to you the thing i am facing and if this is bullshit is your feeling then you can severe the mails.
love and regards for achieving the goals,
    lovingly,
    sudhir kulkarni.

  33. ALFRED DIANELA March 18, 2008 6:52 pm

    Hello Jaz,
I’ve always been interested in personal development and for me, I don’t think of it as a scam for it did help me in my sales career. I gained knowledge and applied all those techniques I learned from Tom Hopkins, Tony Robbins, Zig Zigler, and Brian Tracy and others. They actually inspired me and to this date, I still apply myself from what I learned from them in any selling situation as well as my personal goals. The money I spent I got back many folds. I wouldn’t have been able to get what I want if it wasn’t for these motivators. I can’t complain. Just so you know, I truly enjoy your comments, emails, so please keep me on your list. Much obliged and may you have a very prosperous venture for this year and the years to come. Thank you kindly. What a funtabulous job you’re doing for all of us and very educational :o) Alfred

  34. Cori Countess March 18, 2008 7:58 pm

    Hello Jaz,

I thank you for your emails but I have found little to no use for them considering the upfront cash that is asked for is more than one on disabily can afford. I shall contiue to read and look hoping to make money at some point.

  35. Richard March 18, 2008 11:21 pm

    Hi Jaz,

  41. walter comer March 26, 2008 7:38 pm

    Sorry, Jaz.
With Dr.’s appt.’s, trying to pull my weight around the house (since I’m unable to work) and making time for my wife, I’m not able to get downstairs to the computer as often. I am trying new things for my illness, too. Meditation and bio-feedback take time. I may even wind up having to go to Indiana for a new Laser treatment. Then, there are the days I have my shots. Those days, it’s a flip of a coin as to whether I’ll be on my back all day or feel fine. By the time I do get down here, I have so many E-Mails that it takes me 2-3 hours to go through them, and then there’s working on the business, too. Please, be patient with me.I find your E-Mails educational and inspiring.
    Walter

  45. Fadi May 27, 2008 11:28 am

i think if you read the book and believe you’ll get rich it’s stupid but there’s nothing wrong with believing in yourself and if you need a book to help you accomplish that you should go for it

    not a scam

  46. Christa Griffith June 19, 2008 12:26 pm

I feel like Self Help is just that, if your belief in something is strong then it will help you get through something! If you really think with all your heart and soul that the book in your hand is true and will be the answer to help you out of the situation that you are in then I think that it works! I do not think that the people behind making the books are corrupt or stealing money from us at all! I think that it is a business just like the grocery store up the road and the gas station on the corner!

  47. Angela June 20, 2008 1:04 am

Interesting debate — though I really don’t consider the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books to be self-help. I always thought they were supposed to be simple stories that make people feel good; a form of self-help, I guess, but not the sort of thing I would think of as belonging in the category the other guy seemed to be talking about.
My mother was sort of addicted to self-help books — I think there are a number of bad books out there, but in the end, you only need to find the right one. And in the meantime, most people get something of value even out of the bad ones. At least, thats what I think.

  48. John Counsel November 2, 2008 12:56 am

Self-help is a TOOL, nothing more. To say that self-help is a scam is like saying that money is a scam. Or your car. Or a knife. Or time.

They’re just tools and resources. It’s what you DO with them that makes them legal or illegal, honest or dishonest, ethical or unethical, etc.

Many people use self-help to improve their lives and solve problems. Others use it as a crutch to lean on and feel better about unhappy situations.

Too many people become emotionally dependent on self-help materials and programs, so they become easy prey for scammers.

If you are studying and consuming self-help materials and programs and your life is not measurably better than it was before, then you need to look closely at what you’re doing, and why. Is it just a distraction from unhappiness? Or a situation that you can’t change by yourself?

If so, you may need help from professional counselling to be able to apply what you’re studying and CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Both make good points. I shower daily. That said, I think a lot of people keep going back for the information, but the info is often not the problem. Building wealth isn’t really that tough, but people avoid responsibility.

Serve millions and you’ll make millions. Sell your time to 1 boss, and you probably won’t make much.

  51. Karen Dickens November 13, 2008 3:59 pm

I have not read any of these Chicken Soup books but I do believe that there is a time & purpose for self-help books.Rich Dad Poor Dad for example, really helped me put things in perspective at the time I needed it.I do not ‘go back’ over & over, but maybe I should…it’s not that the book didn’t help me, it would just be a reinforcement of what I learned trying to start a business at the time… so for me trying to better yourself is NOT a scam!!! If only more people would take the time to do that!!! I love your e-mails & they are a great inspiration to me, but I am basically computer illiterate, am self taught,& there is so much for me to learn before I can really start my own internet business…BUT I do believe it is all possible no matter what you are selling. There is something out there for everyone! A scam to me is putting out money & getting nothing productive out of it,or even a way to contact that person, or get a refund if not helpful. Keep up the great e-mails; they give me hope that I might make it someday…

  52. Ron Mendelson November 29, 2008 8:05 pm

Personal development can only be a scam if you do not develop personally. In such cases the truth is you have scammed yourself.

I can honestly say I learn something everyday, from every person I encounter. I consider this personal development.

I share this with me friends, family and business partners on a daily basis as well, I also consider this personal development ( mine and theirs )

Have you done anything towards your own or someone elses personal development lately?

I believe personal development is as much about giving and helping others develop and achieve their dreams as it is about oneself.

Here is to all of our development.

    Jaz,

I just love this. Instead of people allowing themselves to be thought how to fish they will rather prefer to be given fish.

I expect people when they join our indusrty, they do educate themselves well enough to withstand the trebulence times of their own career. It’s different from saying than doing it to get whatever you want in life!

I think people who seek self help just don’t do it themselves. They are still tool lazy to apply the techniques they learn in self-help books.

I do not think Personal Development is a scam at all.
I was working 9-5 and being very unhappy with the way my life was going until I started to read these type of books especially Jim Rohn’s.
It changed my philosophy and perspective and gave me renewed ambition and energy to pursue various means of financial freedom methods eg property investments, stocks investments, and now internet business.
I owe a lot of this to reading and listening to people like Jim Rohn, Robert Kiyosaki and Zig Zagler…
